We began our relationship with Ayalabe Primary School in 2007 when the school asked us to build latrines for their students. In 2007, a guest volunteered during her safari to help build the latrines. She was so moved by the school, its students, and its faculty that she became a board member of FoTZC when she returned to the US.
Since we built the latrines in 2007, we have purchased textbooks for Ayalabe, built two classrooms, and poured the foundations for an additional three classrooms. In 2009, Jane Moore, a Thomson Safaris guest from California, wanted to raise funds for a FoTZC project. She decided to take on Ayalabe and raise funds for two of the remaining three classrooms.
Jane did an amazing job raising the money for this project; we broke ground at Ayalabe in late May and the two classrooms are nearly complete! We are excited for Jane to return to Tanzania this summer to dedicate the classrooms and see the results of all of her hard work.
