Enashiva is a nature refuge in the Loliondo area just east of Serengeti National Park, and is a model for community-based tourism. It is a 12,600 acre nature refuge, where Thomson Safaris has been working side by side with the Maasai to conserve the land and restore habitat; wildlife populations are rapidly growing, and the surrounding communities are benefiting from community-based tourism. There are multiple Maasai villages near Enashiva: Sukenya, Oloipiri, Orkiu, Soit Sambu, and Mondorosi. The Maasai are pastoralists who tend sheep, goats, and their most prized possession, cattle. While they aim to keep their traditional lifestyle, they are eager to benefit from modern services including education and health care.
