Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I donate?

Thank you for your interest in donating to FoTZC. You can donate online, or you can send a check to Focus on Tanzanian Communities, c/o Richard Johnston, Wilmer Hale LLP, 60 State Street, Boston, MA 02109

2. Is my donation tax-deductible?

Focus on Tanzanian Communities is a registered 501(c)(3). Donations are tax-deductible for US taxpayers.

3. I want to send supplies or other items to Tanzania. How do I do that?

We appreciate your inquiry about donating supplies to the communities we support in Tanzania, and are touched by your generosity. FoTZC is unable to carry supplies to Tanzania ourselves, and shipping goods directly to Tanzania can be problematic for a number of reasons. If the mail actually arrives at its destination, it must go through customs. All packages are subject to customs fees and import taxes, which the person receiving the supplies must pay out of pocket to collect these packages. These fees and taxes sometimes exceed the actual value of the goods being donated. Frequently the goods that people want to donate are already available in Tanzania; it’s the money to buy those goods that is not.

If you want to support these communities, we recommend making a monetary contribution to FoTZC. We have the infrastructure in place to ensure that funds are appropriately allocated and that the projects get the most out of each dollar donated. In addition to providing supplies, FoTZC can undertake larger projects that make a huge difference in the long-term, particularly construction projects.
