Donor Engagement Director

Organization: Focus on Tanzanian Communities

Location: Remote

Position Type: Contract/Freelance

Hours: Part-time, 25 hours per week

Compensation: $50,000-$60,000 annually, commensurate with experience.  

Reports to: Vice President of Development 

About Us

We are a small non-profit organization based in Watertown, Massachusetts, dedicated to serving rural communities in Tanzania. Our goal is to collaborate with Tanzanian communities to resolve challenges relating to educating children, increasing access to healthcare and water, and empowering women. We do this through a working partnership that directs resources toward sustainable projects, such as building schools and health center facilities, digging freshwater boreholes, and supporting women-led businesses.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Donor Engagement Director on a contract basis to join our team in a part-time, remote capacity. This role is essential to expand our U.S. donor base and develop a strategic plan as we continue to expand our impact in rural Tanzania. The ideal candidate will work with the board to create marketing initiatives and donor engagement strategies. Initial focus will be on execution - managing donor engagement, campaigns, and CRM optimization. Over time, the role may expand to include longer term strategy development.  

Key Responsibilities

Donor Acquisition and Engagement

•         Support individual donor cultivation and stewardship activities

•         Help coordinate fundraising campaigns (physical and digital)

•         Coordinate donor acknowledgment and recognition processes with the board

•         Focus on expanding the donor base to support organizational growth 

Content Development

•         Review written materials including annual report, newsletters, email campaigns, blog posts, donor appeals, and fundraising materials

•         Ensure website content relates to fundraising and donor engagement

•         Evaluate social media strategy and content 

CRM

•         Oversee and optimize our CRM for accurate donor records, segmentation, and reporting

•         Develop donor pathways and stewardship

•         Evaluate Bloomerang’s long-term suitability and recommend system improvements or replacement

•         Ensure data integrity and implement best practices for donor information management

•         Track and analyze donor engagement across multiple touchpoints to gauge campaign success and generate reports on fundraising metrics and donor trends 

Strategic Planning

•         Long-term potential to work with the board to develop a 3-year strategic fundraising and communications plan 

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

•         Marketing strategy and analysis, including:

◦         Physical media marketing campaign management (primarily mailing campaigns)

◦         Digital marketing campaign management (primarily email marketing)

◦         Experience using email marketing platforms is preferred

•         Content creation, including drafting email copy and strategically selecting photographs from our library

•         Campaign creation, including consulting the Marketing Committee as to how it can improve its current marketing campaigns or create new marketing campaigns

•         Donor communications and stewardship experience

•         Ability to oversee and coordinate with support staff and potentially outsourced services

•         Preferred experience with Bloomerang CRM or similar non-profit platforms

•         Board meeting participation via Zoom or in person, and possible travel to Tanzania in 2027
