WHAT WATER BENEFICIARIES SAY

No longer needing to spend a large part of their days getting water, more females students are enrolling in school here. During the last 10 years I have seen female students go into professions that had been dominated by men; they are becoming engineers and lawyers.

The health of students also have changed. They don't get waterborne diseases because they always get clean water; they get green vegetables. If you have a reliable source of water, even teachers don't need to their waste time trekking water from the river. They use their time with the students during class hours. So no one goes crazy finding water. That has helped improve student performance.

Water from the boreholes helps maintain vegetable gardens that supplement school lunches and keep students healthier. Having a permanent source of water has greatly improved performance; we are now ranked 17 out of 600 schools in the country.

We are so thankful to FOTZC.

Things have changed a lot since I arrived here 16 years ago. One of the big changes is the water availability now. I used to see Maasai ladies with the big caravan of donkeys going to get the water. They spent almost a day. They started early in the morning, let's say around five and then came back late evening. They were unable to do their other household chores.

FOTZC showed up here and they've been working together with the community so that they drilled some of the boreholes which nowadays helps them a lot. So it's like big time saver for them; a big burden was taken off their shoulders.

We used to have a lot of behavior problems when students left the school environment to get water from the river. After FOTZC built a borehole at the school, these discipline issues were greatly reduced.
Alex Bernard Masawe, Soit Sambu Secondary Headmaster

Without clean water, our health could be very bad and that could lead to poor performance of we students. Cause we cannot concentrate in the class without clean water. We be suffering with different diseases that are found in the water.

Now we don't go far to get water which took part of our class time; the water is near the class so we just get our proper time to study. We like to thank the group of FOTZC for their contribution for helping us in the water project. Cause in the back years, we were really suffering with the water, but for now we thank them for their contribution and may God bless them all.
