Our contractor is working at top speed to finish the 2-in-1 teachers’ house at Oloipiri Primary School! They are putting the roof on now, and are levelling the area around the housing. In the next two weeks the roof, plastering, and floors should be complete. We hope to hand the housing over to the school in early November. Here are some photos of the progress on the housing.
Dispensary Progress
The construction on the medical dispensary in Sukenya Village is progressing quickly! The roof of the dispensary building is being put on now, and the foundation for the staff housing has been started. The community is absolutely ecstatic about the progress on the dispensary. We can’t wait to see it completed!
We Made It!
Thank you!! With your generous support, we made our $75,000 fundraising goal just in time for our August 31st deadline! We are pleased to announce that we have received our $75,000 matching gift.
Your contributions towards this campaign has enabled us to complete construction on a 2-in-1 teachers’ house (a duplex) at Oloipiri Primary School, and on a medical dispensary (small health clinic) and staff housing in Sukenya Village. These projects make an incredible difference to the Maasai in these communities. Oloipiri Primary School is set in a very remote community in Loliondo, Tanzania. The school currently has more than 500 students and only eight teachers; in a remote area like this one, the community has to provide housing in order to request additional teachers for the school. The new housing will enable the school to request new teachers in time for the start of the new school year in January.
The medical dispensary and staff housing in Sukenya Village will make an incredible difference to multiple communities in the area. Currently the Maasai in this area have to walk more than 14 miles to access healthcare. The dispensary will provide basic healthcare within this community, making it much more likely that the Maasai will get needed care in a timely manner.
These projects are possible thanks to your gifts to FoTZC during this campaign. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Asante sana!!
Matching Gift - Final Days!
We are so thankful for you, our generous donors. Since we started our matching campaign, we have raised $60,000 towards our goal of $75,000! Thank you for your incredible support!
With just 12 days left in the matching campaign, we want to raise the last $15,000 to reach our $75,000 goal! Remember – every gift you make towards our general projects before August 31st, 2014 will be doubled.
These gifts will go towards helping Oloipiri Primary School to have more than eight teachers for more than 500 students, and will help build a health facility for Sukenya Village and surrounding communities in which people have to walk more than 12 miles to access health care. Please help us complete these projects by making a gift today!
Construction Updates
The 2-in-1 teachers’ housing at Oloipiri Primary School is nearly finished! In the next two weeks, the floors, plaster, and roofing will be completed. The housing will be finished in enough time for the community to request additional teachers for the start of the new school year in January. (See photo to the left).
The Sukenya dispensary construction is also underway; the cement blocks have been completed and the foundation has been poured. In the next two weeks, the walls, windows, and door frames will be complete! (See photos below).
We’ll keep you posted as these projects near completion; it’s very exciting for Olopiri Village and for the communities surrounding Sukenya who will benefit from the dispensary!
